Carotenoids & Antioxidants

 In Uncategorized

In Italy, a small study of twenty-seven patients with non-advanced AMD were divided into two groups. Fifteen patients were given oral supplementation of vitamin C (180 mg), vitamin E (30 mg), zinc (22.5 mg), copper (1 mg), lutein (10 mg), zeaxanthin (1 mg), and astaxanthin (4 mg) daily for one year. The other twelve patients were not treated with any dietary supplements during the same time frame.*

Both groups were evaluated after 6 and 12 months. The group treated with carotenoids and antioxidants were found to have improved central retina function.
