Antioxidants & Bone Loss
A new study done by Research Centre on Aging in Canada shows that antioxidants may offer the same protection against bone loss as resistance training. This study determines the effects of antioxidants and resistance training on bone mineral density of postmenopausal women. A 6 month study observed a decrease in the lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) of the placebo group while other groups remained stable.*
Thirty-four postmenopausal women were randomly placed in four groups for a 6-month intervention consisted of antioxidant supplements (600 mg vitamin E and 1,000 mg vitamin C daily) or resistance exercise (3x/week). There was a significant decrease in the placebo group for lumbar spine BMD while it remained stable in all other groups. Antioxidant vitamins may offer some protection against bone loss in the same extent as resistance exercise although combining both does not seem to produce additional effects. Stay tuned for further investigations on the impact of antioxidant supplements prevention of osteoporosis.
Viteyes offers an array of formulas with antioxidants that can be taken in combination with Neoflex Glucosamine (caplets and shellfish free powder) and New! Neoflex Calcium for joint health.
